Stories are circulating that Charlton are about to sign former Coventry captain, Sammy Clingan.
Clingan was released by the Sky Blues in the summer after failing to agree terms for a new deal.
The 28-year-old is a similar player to Nigel Reo-Coker and is a more defensely minded type of midfielder.
The Belfast born player began his career at Wolves but failed to make a league appearance in his five year stay at Molinuex. He had two loan spells at Chesterfield where he scored 3 goals in his 36 appearances during his time on Wolves’ books though.
Clingan made his name at Nottingam Forest where he made 85 appearances in a three season stay, netting just once, after leaving Molineux.
Prior to joining the Sky Blues, Sammy had a couple of seasons at Norwich, playing in a more advanced role. He scored 6 times in his 40 appearances before moving to the Ricoh in the summer of 2009. Clingan appeared 98 times for Coventry and added another 7 goals to his tally.
He has a wealth of experience and has won over 30 caps for Northern Ireland. He would add competition for the central midfield slots.
